On March 18 and 19, 2023, the non-profit organization Hacker School and the Haufe Group jointly hosted a programming workshop for children and young people on the campus of the Freiburg-based group of companies.

Before deciding on a profession, every young person should have programmed once in their life - this is the vision of the nationwide active Hacker School. To this end, courses are held in cooperation with companies, among others, in which children and young people can learn how to use programming languages and gain initial insights into IT occupational fields.

As part of its social sustainability commitment, the Haufe Group supports the non-profit organization financially on the one hand and also hosted a Hacker School workshop on its Freiburg campus for eleven children and young people aged between 11 and 13 last weekend. Because for the Haufe Group, one thing is certain: digital education and lifelong learning cannot begin early enough. The Hacker School thus offers participants an ideal opportunity to discover technology in an unbiased and playful way.

"Education is a central key to preparing young people for the digital future. With the support of the Hacker School, the children and young people learn that they can shape technology in their own way, experience themselves as self-effective, and learn methods of problem solving almost along the way - important future skills, both for everyday life and for career orientation," says Daniel Thiemig, CSR Manager of the Haufe Group.

The two-day workshop focused on programming with a small computer called micro:bit. The participants programmed applications for measuring temperature, generating sounds or even developed their own games on the mini-computer. The emphasis was on fun, creativity and interactivity. The workshop was conducted and accompanied by IT experts from the Haufe Group, who were able to pass on their own enthusiasm for their field of work.

"We are delighted to have the Haufe Group as a committed partner company, with whom we were able to implement the Hacker School here in Freiburg so successfully and to the complete delight of the children and young people," adds Simon Lühr from the Hacker School.
